At the height of the 1921 Irish Rebellion, Lady Helen Drummond travels to Dublin as part of a peacekeeping mission. She meets a handsome, gentle Irishman with the soul of a poet, and falls deeply in love with him. Only later does she discover that he's actually Dennis Riordan the enigmatic leader of the rebel army - a hero to his people, and the man whose reign of terror against the British has made him the most wanted criminal in Ireland.
Torn between her loyalty to England and her love for Dennis, Lady Helen is willing to sacrifice almost everything for a few stolen moments, and continues meeting him in secret.
Dennis knows that by falling in love with Lady Helen, he has put his own life in jeopardy - for every time they meet, the British move one step closer to capturing him - and his own men become more suspicious and fearful that he'll betray their cause.
