“Born in Grayslake, Illinois, water colorist and printmaker Charles Oglesby Longabaugh studied at Wheaton College and at the Art Institute of Chicago. He traveled extensively throughout Mexico and the American Southwest. He is best known as a regionalist landscape painter and etcher. Longabaugh died at Libertyville, Illinois.”

“He was a Chicago artist, specifically from Grayslake, but painted and exhibited throughout the US, including Texas, Washington, New York, Philadelphia, New Orleans, Ohio and even Mexico. It is written that Longabaugh was so popular back in his day that his paintings sold "wet" from the easel. Not only did Longabaugh paint in oils, but he did many watercolors and etchings as well. It was noted in a newspaper tribute that he was as fine a man as he was an artist, and that he would be greatly missed.“
