Beautiful detail and “motion” captured in this artist’s rendition of the Canada Loon. Jarko Zavi (1907-1987) was a Czech-born Canadian ceramist and sculptor. He fled to Canada just before the outbreak of WWII . Described as a loner, he crafted his pieces in his studio by hand, without molds or wires. In 2014 some of his work was displayed in a solo gallery exhibition. This vintage piece, dated 1967, was lovingly preserved, no scratches or cracks, no visible wear of glaze or paint. Muted grays and browns, bright orange webbed feet, standing on a jade colored rock. 5 1/2 in from base to tip of wings. 7 inches from tip of beak to tail. Amazing to hold something that this artist created over 50 years ago.
Vintage accent, mid century, shelf decor, table decor
