S.N.A.C.K. Benefit
“When San Francisco school budget cuts meant an end to extracurricular activities, Bill Graham took action. With the Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, The Band, Neil Young, Santana, The Doobie Brothers and others, he staged a benefit concert. It was successful enough to generate a check presented to then Mayor Joseph Alioto large enough to relieve the crisis for one year. Between sets, a parade of role models and heroes came to the stage to speak to the audience. Willie Mays, Joan Baez, Jesse Owens, and Marlon Brando were just a few who participated.”
