Offered are 3 rimmed soup bowls crafted by Royal Staffordshire (England) in the Tonquin Blue pattern that feature hand engraved underglaze and designed by Clarice Cliff. The rim features a lovely floral border. The center design shows a stately home adjacent to a river with a view of a footbridge above a calming waterfall. Swans swim in the foreground. Beyond the home boats sail a lake. Another dwelling and mountains are in the background. Others have dated these plates to 1920s, 1930s or 1960s, but I was unable to verify.
I’m not sure, but they feel and look like ironstone. Assume they are hand wash only. Diameter is 7 ¾” and height is 1 ¼.”
Considering age, the plates are in good condition except for small spots on the bottoms where glaze has been lost and discolorations occur (examples in photos). There is some light crazing on one.
These plates would pair nicely with other vintage blue and white patterns (e.g., Blue Onion. Willow Blue, etc.) They would also display well.
