BCE hardcover copy of The Sea Around Us by Rachel Carson (Oxford University Press, 1951). Likely produced some time in 1952 due to the original price ($3.50) still being present, but the boards, binding technique and, “H. Wolff” on copyright page all identify this copy as a book club edition. Unusual, yes for a BCE to have a price, but that appears to be the case for this particular book. Carson’s breakout nature / conservation / ecology book explaining a wide variety of natural processes that influence and maintain sea life as we know it. Jacket now protected in new (removable) archival sleeve but with chipping and tears, the larger of which have some tape applied. Boards rubbed and with shelf wear around the edges. Corners bumped. A few instances of split binding though spine remains straight. Pages tanned and with stamp on fep.
