A beautiful example of mid-century German craftsmanship, this Buchschmid & Gretaux marquetry tray features an intricate inlaid wood scene of Heidelberg Castle and the Old Bridge (Alte Brücke). Brass handles, artist signed with “BG” monogram in corner. ca 1950's-1970's.
Expertly handcrafted using natural wood veneers in varying tones, each element of the architectural landscape is rendered through the precise and labor-intensive art of marquetry. No paints or dyes were used. The warm oak frame complements the depth and dimensionality of the scene, making this a functional work of art.
