Antique Enamel French Champleve Paisley Brass Buttons Cut Steel Border-Set of 2

These highly detailed, colorful Victorian-era beauties measure 1.25 inches (3 mm.)
Shanks have been removed/damaged on both, but they can be replaced, or buttons can be converted to earrings, pendants, or brooches.
A small portion of black enamel has worn off of one button. See pics.

Fun Facts: Translated from the French, Champlevé means “raised field.” Champlevé is an enamel process where the surface to be enameled is carved, engraved, stamped, or etched with a design prior to enameling. The powdered enamel is fired into the design highlighting it. To make the cut steel border, melted horseshoe nails were formed into tiny faceted beads. Those small steel gemstone-like studs were then riveted one-by-one onto a base plate.
