Fenton produced their cranberry opalescent coin-dot vases from 1947 to 1964. The coin dot pattern is a copy of the Victorian Polka Dot pattern, and the cranberry glass is made with a dark pink base and white opalescence.
Fenton's cranberry glass gets its color from pure gold, and the glassmaking process is a skill that requires knowledge and craftsmanship. The process begins with a glassworker attaching a "bud" of glass containing pure gold to a blowpipe. The piece is then reheated and finished with a carbon paddle and a special device to crimp the edge.
