Original commemorative airmail cover flown aboard a German Air Force F-4 Phantom during a supersonic flight from Wittmund to Manston (UK) on April 29, 1983.
This item honors Jagdgeschwader 71 "Richthofen", the modern Luftwaffe unit named after WWI flying ace Manfred von Richthofen (the “Red Baron”).
Key features:
Includes a handwritten signature in blue ink, believed to be that of Oberleutnant Hübsch, co-commander of the flight (not confirmed).
Official Luftwaffe unit stamp on reverse: JG 71 “Richthofen” – Wittmund.
Rare 30-pf Jean Monnet Bundespost stamp with commemorative cancelation.
Illustrated cachet showing Fokker Dr.I and von Richthofen.
