Although it is written above the “H” St. Louis seal on the left, federal reserve notes are not currently redeemable for gold nor have they been since January 1934. Prior to 1934 some Federal Reserve notes, specifically be 1928 series where redeemable for gold at the treasury or Federal Reserve banks, however, an act of Congress , eliminated this option in 1934.
