After the birth win the civil war the field workers loved president lincoln.by showing their love and respect for Lincoln they wore a Lincoln cent as a necklace. They use a hammer and punch or a nail and punched a hole in the coin and use twine as a necklace. The tradition was passed on and eventually died off in the late 50's early 1960's.This is one of the coins that was worn in the mid 30's they would carve their initials in their coin so no one would steal it it's a interesting part of the history of the Lincoln cent I'm putting this one up for sale I wore it for a couple of yrs .and am ready to let it go I maybe should have it put in a museum.it was given to me by a 90 yr old woman I worked for out of Spartanburg sc. She wore it and it was passed down to her.from one of her family members who was a slave field worker.
