Works as designed! Vintage collectable AWIA portable reel-to-reel player recorder model TP-40R in remarkable operating and physical condition. Includes earphone, take-up reel, and packaging, tape reel, and vintage batteries. Retail price adjusted for inflation was $160-$180. Microphone was not present in box. Batteries were still installed. Motors oiled, rubber reels conditioned, and corrosion cleaned. Vintage batteries included for display only.
We evaluate its vintage to between '68 and '72. It was used briefly then stored away in its box for 50 years.
How we date:
AWIA produced reel-to-reels between '63 and '72.
Gulf-Mart where this item was bought, went bankrupt in '74.
Batteries are pre-ANSI. Ray-O-Vac #863 with 25-cent price dates to late 60s. 9-volt Union Carbide Eveready NEDA 1604 produced between '65-'70.
Recording includes an imitation of Tiny Tim singing "Tiptoe through the Tulips" which would have only been known after '68 when that rendition became notable.
