Mr. Peanut is the advertising logo and mascot of Planters, an American snack-food company and division of Kraft Heinz. He was created by Italian immigrant Antonio Gentile in 1916.
Planters ran several contests to find a suitable design for their brand mascot. Gentile's design was then modified by a commercial artist who added a top hat, monocle, and cane to transform Mr. Peanut into a dapper character. These Mr. Peanut pens were often given away as promotional items.
