This is a charming and authentic early 20th-century French Couvert de Voyage (travel cutlery set), dating to around 1920. These compact utensil kits were popular with travelers, picnickers, and soldiers of the time,designed to be portable, durable.
Dark brown/black leather-covered travel case, still bearing the faint gilt lettering Couvert de VOYAGE. Interior lined in a red paper/fabric, showing expected age wear and loss. Hinged design, now with cracks and splitting from age but intact overall. I assume that the drinking cup is missing.
Knife: steel blade with oxidation and surface rust from age. Fork: steel tines, lightly worn.
Handles: bone with brass/steel rivets.
Case shows heavy exterior wear with cracking, scuffs, and some loss to leather covering. Interior liner is worn and flaking.
Knife blade has rust and pitting; fork tines are tarnished.
Handles show natural age cracks but remain stable. Despite age wear, this set retains its original charm and historical character.
