As shown. See all photos. Pre-owned. Ann in rough condition, falling apart. Andy measurably better. Still structurally sound. The latter inscribed to my maternal grandmother, Christmas 1920. She’d have been 7. Purchase knowing the dilapidated condition of Ann. Both over a century old. Having traveled from Kansas to Oklahoma to Chicago to Green Bay to NY suburbs to NYC. Price listed is for the pair. Published by P.F. Volland. Both first editions.

“One day in 1915, Johnny Gruelle’s daughter brought him an old rag doll. He drew a face on the worn fabric and called the doll Raggedy Ann. Gruelle, a cartoonist and illustrator, wrote a children’s book about Ann in 1918. Publisher P. F. Volland arranged to sell dolls along with the books, and the tie-in proved a marketing hit. In 1920, Gruelle introduced the Raggedy Andy Stories. In them, when humans weren’t looking, Raggedy Ann and Andy came to life and embarked on many adventures.”
