Antique Brass Horse Door Knocker Mid 19th Century

Antique mid 19 century brass horse door knocker. Hardware used to announce visitors.

Per my elderly mother who’s 83. This was given to her by her mother when she was in her mid 20s. My grandmother‘s brother Great Uncle Lewis. He was doing renovations in Washington DC, and this came from one of the houses owned by the government. My mother, thinks it was some type of guest house, and when my uncle was doing the renovations, he kept the door knocker. She did state, however, that she definitely knew it was owned by the US government.

These brasses became popular in from the mid-19th century and often feature various motifs, including animals like horses and other symbols, and are collected today.

Would make a nice addition to anyone’s collection. An excellent antique condition. Please see pictures as the detail is amazing.
