Antique 8" x 10" Handpainted Chalkware Ramona Wall Plaque Good Condition RARE!

This charming Chalkware wall plaque carries the copyright mark "Ramona," and depicts the heroine of Helen Hunt Jackson's famous story Ramona going to meet her lover Allesandro, who is waiting for her by a stream. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries Ramona was a phenomenally successful novel adapted for stage and four Hollywood films. It also sparked a California tourist boom for sites associated with the tale. This plaque was likely produced by a California pottery for sale at Ramona's Wedding Place gift shop. It depicts Allesandro playing guitar (in the novel he plays violin) near a waterfall (not in the novel). The popular theme song of the 1928 film references Allesandro waiting for Ramona beside a waterfall, and so this may be a tie-in with the movie. I have never seen another similar Ramona item and this is undoubtedly a very rare plaque! Has some of the scratches typical of old chalkware but is very good condition and ready to display!
