"The F4D's cruise speed is 520 miles per hour, and its maximum speed is 722 miles per hour at sea level, and 695 miles per hour at 36,000 feet. It has a maximum speed of 25,000 lbs (loaded) and a service ceiling of 55,000 ft.
The F4D is derived from German design concepts developed late in World War II. Two prototypes of the Douglas design were ordered on December 16, 1948, as the XF4D-l. The initial flight was made on January 23, 1951."
