BACKGROUND: GYOTAKU or "Fish Rubbing" originated in the mid 1800's as a Japanese Art form used by fishermen to record their captures. Original GYOTAKU paintings are considered thoughtful gifts and are believed to bring good luck to people.
DETAILS: In the South, alligator season only occurs 1 month per year, in September. But, not just anyone is allowed to hunt alligators! Therefore, that makes this a rare opportunity to obtain a piece of this artwork. Each painting is original, handmade, unique, rare, and one-of-a-kind!
PROCESS: A non-toxic, water-soluble, acrylic ink is applied to a real gator, then a canvas is spread to make the alligator impression. Multiple imprints can be made from the same alligator, but no two are ever exactly alike, which makes each one a one-of-a-kind art piece.
