This unique vintage Chinese footed porcelain platter measures approximately 12" x 10.5" x 2" and features an intricate hand-painted blue and white map of Japan with stylized ocean waves. Each province is labeled in kanji, surrounded by a rhythmic pattern of semicircular sea waves. The undulating rim and scalloped edges give the platter a sculptural quality that enhances its decorative appeal.
The reverse bears a four-character Qing-style mark:
天保年製 (Tianbao Nian Zhi) – meaning “Made during the Tianbao years.” While this mark refers to the Tianbao era (742–756 AD), this platter is most likely a 20th-century homage piece, reflecting traditional Chinese export porcelain aesthetics.
Condition:
Good vintage condition. The design remains crisp and vibrant. However, there are visible chips along one side of the rim (the lower asking price accounts for this flaw), which do not compromise its structural integrity but should be noted for display or use purposes (see photos). Sold as is.
