Minted in Mexico from 1823 to 1897, the 8 Reales coin features the iconic cap-and-ray design symbolizing liberty on one side and the Mexican eagle and snake emblem on the other. These coins are made of .903 silver and typically weigh around 27.07 grams. The 8 Reales coin is prized for its historical importance, distinctive design, and role as a precursor to the modern peso. The Zacatecas Mint was closed in 1905. When this coin was minted it was owned by the Govt. of the state of Zacatecas. It went through 6 changes before being owned by the Govt of the Republic of Mexico and eventually shut down in May of 1905.
