Vintage Antique Shell Cameo in Fine Silver
This lovely carved shell cameo is both a brooch and a pendant. There is a tube hinged bale that tucks neatly away when the cameo is being worn as a pin. The ornate oval frame isn't marked but is likely fine silver. No attempt has been made to clean the silver.
The clasp is a C clasp, the type used up to the early 20th century. The pin has a tube hinge which likely dates it back to the 1800s. The pendant bale also has this type of tube hinge. Best guess is that this cameo dates from the mid-1800s.
The cameo itself is a nicely detailed carved shell portrait. Overall measures about 1¼” x 1⅝”, in good condition.
My mother bought this from a retired jeweler in the 1960’s. (So glad she kept notes on her treasures.)
