The Lenovo ThinkSystem RAID 540-8i PCIe Gen4 12Gb Adapter is a cacheless internal RAID controller for SAS and SATA drives, based on the Broadcom MegaRAID 9540 chipset. It connects via a PCIe 4.0 x8 interface and supports RAID 0, 1, and 10, along with JBOD mode. The adapter handles up to 63 physical drives with a SAS expander and 32 virtual drives, using a fixed 64 KB stripe size. It supports intermixing of SAS and SATA drives in separate arrays, as well as 12 Gbps and 6 Gbps drives. It is compatible with multiple versions of Windows Server, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, and VMware ESXi. It is suited for small to medium business storage systems requiring cost-efficient RAID protection and flexible drive configurations.
